Unlocking the Outback Adventure of Faith

Embracing the Weekend VBS Format

Recognizing the busy schedules of families during the summer months, Columbiana United Methodist Church made the strategic decision to host its VBS event on a weekend, rather than the traditional weekday format. This shift in approach proved to be a resounding success, as Angie Nash, the church's children's director, explained, "Doing it on a Friday and Saturday night really worked out for everyone—for kids, (parents) and our church family." The weekend schedule allowed for greater participation and engagement, ensuring that the VBS experience was accessible and convenient for all.

Crafting an Immersive Outback Adventure

The VBS event, titled "Outback Rock," transported the children into a captivating Australian-themed world. The hallways of the church were transformed, adorned with kangaroos, animals, and lush trees, creating a visually stunning environment. A well was strategically placed in the front of the sanctuary, seamlessly integrating the Bible story of Joseph from the book of Genesis into the overall theme.

Nurturing Faith through Music and Activities

Each night of the VBS weekend was filled with engaging activities that fostered a deeper understanding of God's love and support. The children participated in a variety of crafts and games, all while learning uplifting songs that aligned with the curriculum. Additionally, the church provided dinner for the attendees, ensuring that their physical and spiritual needs were met.

Empowering Missions and Community Outreach

Beyond the VBS weekend, Columbiana United Methodist Church demonstrated its commitment to making a positive impact on the community. During the event, the church was able to raise over 0 to contribute to various missions. Furthermore, the church annually holds the Skillet Bird Toy Drive, honoring a past church member by collecting gifts for local children in need.

Planting Seeds of Faith

Angie Nash, the children's director, eloquently articulated the underlying purpose of the VBS event, stating, "Our goal, as a church—and as a children's ministry director—is to always allow kids to come into church to have fun. But the underlying goal is to always plant seeds of faith into their hearts so that they will know who Jesus is. So, that they'll be able to reach into their memories or into their hearts and to know that they are loved deeply by Jesus and there is a church family who loves them."The Columbiana United Methodist Church's VBS weekend was a resounding success, captivating the hearts and minds of the children in attendance. By embracing a weekend format, creating an immersive Australian-themed experience, and fostering a nurturing environment of faith, music, and community outreach, the church has set a shining example of how to inspire and empower the next generation of believers.
