Meet the 7-year-old repping South Jersey in the USA Kids Mullet Championship

Mullet Mania: The Rise of Mikey Williams and the Kids Mullet Championship

In the quaint town of Marlton, New Jersey, a 7-year-old boy named Mikey Williams has become a local celebrity, thanks to his iconic mullet hairstyle. Mikey's mom, Brittany, says people are constantly stopping him to compliment his unique look, and his football coach has even dubbed him "Mikey Mullet." Now, Mikey is representing his hometown in the Kids Mullet Championship, a competition that has captured the attention of the nation.

Embracing the Retro Trend: Mikey's Mullet Journey

Rocking the Mullet Since the Pandemic

Mikey's mullet is no new trend for the young athlete. In fact, he's been sporting the iconic 80s hairstyle since the COVID-19 pandemic began. When asked why he chose this particular cut, Mikey, with a confident demeanor, simply stated, "It's cool." And it seems the rest of the world agrees, as the mullet has made a surprising comeback in recent years.

A Hometown Hero in the Making

Mikey's mullet has not only made him a local celebrity but has also caught the attention of the national Kids Mullet Championship. After entering the competition in May, Mikey was voted into the second round, becoming the 32nd out of 33 kids to move forward. His mom, Brittany, says the family had to enter the contest, and when it came time to choose a nickname for his hairstyle, Mikey opted for "chief," a nod to his football team's mascot.

Cutting Edges: Mikey's Barbershop Connection

Mikey's mullet may have an extra edge, thanks to the barbershop he frequents. Marlton's Creators Barber Studios on Route 70 is known for being a favorite of Philadelphia Eagles star Jalen Hurts, who often gets his hair cut there by owner Nicholas Vendetti. Mikey was sure to sport his green Hurts jersey after his latest visit, accessorizing with his older brother's gold chain, as younger siblings often do.

Aiming for the Top Prize

Mikey is confident that he has one of the longest mullets in the competition, and he's already got big plans for the ,000 grand prize. The young athlete plans to use the winnings to buy a new pair of Jordans, a PlayStation, and the coveted "pencil bat" made famous by Phillies player Bryson Stott.

Rallying the Community

The Kids Mullet Championship is not just about personal glory; it's also raising funds for a worthy cause. This year, the competition is supporting Jared Allen's Homes for Wounded Warriors, a nonprofit organization that provides mortgage-free homes to injured veterans. Supporters can cast their votes for Mikey and donate to the charity to increase his chances of winning.

A Mullet-Filled Future

As the second round of voting continues through July 30, Mikey and his mullet are capturing the hearts and attention of people across the country. Whether he takes home the top prize or not, Mikey's story has already become a testament to the power of embracing one's unique style and the way a simple hairstyle can bring a community together. The Kids Mullet Championship may be just the beginning of Mikey's journey, and the world is eager to see what the future holds for this young mullet-wearing sensation.
