Brandon University welcomes experienced financial leader to executive team

Seasoned Finance Leader Joins Brandon University to Steer Financial Transformation

Brandon University has announced the appointment of Peter Hickey as its new Vice-President (Administration & Finance), effective September 1, 2024. Hickey, a seasoned finance professional with extensive experience in both the private and public sectors, will bring his expertise in corporate financial planning, cost controls, risk management, and team leadership to the university.

Unlocking Brandon University's Financial Potential

Proven Track Record in Financial Leadership

Hickey's impressive career spans over two decades, with a diverse background that includes leadership roles in the consumer-packaged goods industry and the Ontario Child Welfare sector. His most recent position was as the Director of Finance and Administration, including a stint as Interim Chief Financial Officer, at the Children's Aid Society of Toronto. Hickey's educational achievements include the prestigious Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designations, as well as a Master of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Commerce degree from Laurentian University.

Embracing the Brandon Community

Hailing from Northern Ontario, Hickey is excited to return to a smaller center, where he believes he can become more deeply involved and build strong community connections. During his visits to Brandon University, Hickey has been warmly welcomed by the faculty and staff, and he looks forward to fully integrating into the Brandon community. In his free time, Hickey enjoys spending time outdoors and on camping trips with his family, a passion that aligns well with the university's location and the surrounding natural beauty.

Driving Financial Transformation at Brandon University

As the new Vice-President (Administration & Finance), Hickey will oversee the university's Financial and Registration Services, Business Operations, Physical Plant, and Workplace Safety and Health. He will also serve as a member of the President's Executive Council, providing high-level oversight and regular reporting to the BU Board of Governors. Hickey is excited to join the education field and contribute to the university's ongoing success, particularly in light of the exciting projects he has heard are in the works.

Honoring the Legacy of Outgoing VP

Hickey's appointment comes as Brandon University bids farewell to Scott Lamont, who retired after 30 years of dedicated service to the institution. The university extends its heartfelt gratitude to Lamont for his extensive contributions and wishes him all the best in his retirement.

Embracing the Future at Brandon University

Brandon University's President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. David Docherty, is confident that Hickey's wealth of experience and eagerness to engage with the campus community will be invaluable assets to the university. Hickey's appointment marks a new chapter in Brandon University's financial leadership, as the institution continues to build on its proud tradition and shared ambition to provide students with a transformative educational experience.
