One of the highlights she always mentions is the college's glassblowing studio, where a select few students each semester have the chance to explore this captivating art form. Initially, the artist was intrigued by the prospect of taking the glassblowing class, but as a non-art major, she assumed the opportunity would be reserved for her peers. However, fate had other plans, and as a junior, she found herself with an open slot in her schedule, allowing her to finally pursue her long-held interest.

Embracing the Addictive Nature of Glassblowing

From the moment she stepped into the studio, our artist was hooked. The process of watching a piece of art emerge from nothing was mesmerizing, and she found herself spending countless hours honing her skills and creating a diverse array of pieces, from vases and cups to intricate pumpkin sculptures. The allure of glassblowing was undeniable, and she quickly became immersed in the art, driven by a desire to push the boundaries of her creativity and explore the endless possibilities that this medium offered.

From the custom-crafted blowpipes and benches to the expertly folded "paper" tools used to shape the molten glass, each element plays a crucial role in the creative process. However, the investment required to set up a personal glassblowing studio is substantial, with an estimated cost of over ,000 for a modest-sized setup, including the furnace, annealer, and other essential components. This financial barrier can be a significant hurdle for aspiring artists, but it also highlights the dedication and passion required to pursue this craft.

Her primary focus remains on her academic pursuits, as she is a Biology major with minors in Chemistry, Spanish, and Global Health, with plans to continue her education and pursue a Ph.D. in Human Genetics. However, the artist has found a way to incorporate her passion for glassblowing into her life, selling her creations under the name "The Pearl – Hand Blown Glass" and exploring opportunities for custom orders and commissions.
